GETTING TO KNOW FELLOW PARISHIONERS

Over the past few years we have welcomed so many new people to the parish. It has been a great honor to get to know so many of you, and I look forward to becoming better acquainted with all of you in the years to come. I do hope, also, that many of you have the chance to develop friendships with others at the parish. To that end, I thought to make a few suggestions.

I believe one of the best ways to meet other people at the parish is to not only attend parish events but also to volunteer for them. The Pig Roast, the Chesterton Event, the All Hallow’s Eve party, the Christmas Party, and the Italian Dinner, as well as the Marian Procession, the receptions for Sacraments for the children, and the Women’s Day of Recollection are all great opportunities to work side by side with fellow parishioners and also meet and interact with other parishioners attending those events.

We also have many groups available to parishioners, such as the choir, the Chesterton Society, the Altar Linen & Flowers Society, and others. A full list is available on the opposite inner page of the bulletin. I especially encourage men to consider joining the usher or security teams.

ADULT CATECHISM

This fall we will be starting up our adult catechism series again. Fr. Curtis will be teaching the class, which will generally be meeting on second and fourth Thursdays of the month from August until Easter (the only exceptions will be November and December, on account of Thanksgiving and Christmas). The classes meet at 7 pm, in the parish hall, and run about an hour and a half.

I encourage all parishioners to reach out to family members, friends, and co-workers that might be interested in learning about the Catholic faith. An excellent opener is: “Have you ever thought about becoming Catholic?” Or, “I’m going to be attending catechism classes at my parish, would you have any interest in joining me?” Depending on the response you get, you might assure the person that showing up for the classes – and even registering – does not represent any firm commitment towards becoming Catholic; it is normal for people to attend the classes even if they are merely curious about or investigating the faith.
