Sacramento Chesterton Society Meeting
August 8, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Our August meeting will be this coming Tuesday, August 8th, at the usual time and the usual place (with the usual suspects). We will finish our reading of The Ballad of the White Horse, concluding with the reading of Book 7 – Ethandune: The Last Charge and Book 8 – The Scouring of the Horse; but come prepared to discuss Book 6: Ethandune: The Slaying of the Chiefs, as we didn’t get around to discussing it at our July meeting.
There’s a lot to talk about in these chapters (or “Books”) There’s the description of the battle itself, another apparition of Our Lady to King Alfred, and Alfred’s prophecy about a future “invasion” of England, and more. We’ll see how far we get on Tuesday.
For the month of September we intend to read The Napoleon of Notting Hill, a very interesting early novel of Chesterton’s. Come to the meeting and learn why it is Chesterton’s 1984.
HERE is a link to Dale Ahlquist’s American Chesterton Society Lecture on The Napoleon of Notting Hill.
Until this coming Tuesday, then, I remain
Yours,
Spencer
