Almsgiving & Prayer
Almsgiving. Please remember the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Brown Bag Lunch Program, Gabriel Project, and St. Bernadette Fund as you consider charitable giving during Lent. Finding ways to visit the sick, the homebound, and the imprisoned during Lent is also highly desirable.
Prayer. The Rosary, spiritual reading, and mental prayer on a daily basis are all part of an integral and healthy interior life. If certain habits have slipped or have always been lacking, Lent is an excellent time to make forward progress in the spiritual life. Those who already faithfully maintain these three pillars may also consider adding some hours of the Divine Office (either Lauds and Vespers, or Prime and Compline are an excellent place to start). Regular attendance at daily Mass, where possible, is also highly encouraged. If you have never had the habit of daily Mass, consider trying to go once a week during Lent.
Do you wish your prayer to fly toward God? Make for it two wings: fasting and almsgiving. – St. Augustine
