The Rorate Mass will be the following Sat, Dec 9, at 6:30 am. This beautiful Mass is scheduled at our parish for every second Saturday of December; it is a candlelit Mass in honor of Our Lady, taking its name from the first words of the Introit, from Isaiah 45:8 –“Rorate caeli désuper et nubes pluant justum: Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just.”
There is a long history of the Rorate Mass going back at least as far as the early Middle Ages. At times and in certain regions it was said every day in the week before Christmas, or even for nine days as a novena in expectation of the Messiah, and commemorating the nine months of Our Lady’s pregnancy. It draws most of its propers from the Ember Wednesday Mass of Advent, but also from the Fourth Sunday of Advent as well as the Feast of the Annunciation. At times it has been called the Missa Aurea (the Golden Mass) or the Missa Angelica (the Angelic Mass).
