OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
The feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel falls this Saturday, July 16. She is the patroness of the Brown Scapular, which is a very popular devotion in our parish and in the FSSP in general. We will be blessing scapulars and enrolling parishioners in the brown scapular after all Masses this Saturday. Please bring your own scapular and approach the communion rail immediately after Mass.
Masses should be absolutely packed on Saturday!! What a shame it would be – with so many of our parishioners wearing the brown scapular and relying on the graces obtained by Our Lady through that devotion – if we would not turn out in great numbers to honor her on this beautiful feast day! I hope to see you there!
Pope Leo XIII: “The Carmelite Scapular’s nobility of origin, its extraordinary spread among Christian peoples for many centuries, the spiritualizing effects produced by it and the outstanding miracles worked in virtue of it render the Scapular of Carmel commendable to a wondrous degree.”
Pope Pius XII: “All Carmelites, whether they live in the cloisters of the First or Second Orders or are members of the Third Order or of the Confraternities, belong to the same family of our Most Blessed Mother and are attached to it by a special bond of love. May they all see in this keepsake of the Virgin herself a mirror of humility and purity; may they read in the very simplicity of the Garment a concise lesson in modesty and simplicity; above all, may they behold in this same Garment, which they wear day and night, the eloquent expressive symbol of their prayers for divine assistance.”
ADULT CATECHISM
Please invite a family member, friend, or co-worker to our adult catechism classes, which begin soon! Our first class is on August 11 at 7 pm, in the parish hall. Anyone is welcome to attend: Catholics wanting to learn more about their faith, catechumens interested in conversion, or even just people interested or curious about the faith. Fr Curtis will be teaching all of the classes.
Those looking to receive Sacraments should register if possible. Forms and schedules are available in the parish bookstore. Or you can have someone e-mail Fr Curtis at frcurtis@fssp.com.
We only have a few people registered so far! Don’t miss this opportunity to invite someone.
